My Background
I'm currently pursuing my MFA in Literary Reportage at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. The two-year graduate program encapsulates my two passions: the craft of creative writing and the rigor of in-depth reporting. We work in the mediums of print and audio.
Before moving to New York, I was the arts and culture reporter for the Aspen Daily News. I wrote for their daily print and digital publications serving communities in the Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado. I covered annual events, from the Food & Wine Classic and Aspen Music Festival to an Oscar-qualifying Shortsfest and the Aspen Art Musuem's ArtCrush week. I've profiled formerly incarcerated artists, aeronauts and female DJs. I've interviewed the youngest member of the Court of Master Sommeliers and the night assistant to Hunter S. Thompson. I've reported on snow-pack safety programs, businesses that closed and businesses that opened and state-wide initiatives, such as the decriminalization of plant medicines.
I saw the challenges that rural communities face in accessing local news and made deliberate efforts to serve underrepresented voices via my coverage, from reporting on music therapy workshops for veterans and Spanish-language art programs for Latino youth to reminding readers why major fundraisers, like Aspen Gay Ski Week, are so impactful.
In 2022 I launched Authentic Aspen, a new seasonal magazine for the Daily News. I served as its editor for four consecutive issues. I was the copy editor for another lifestyle magazine, Aspen Local, where my work is also published.
I earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and an Interdisciplinary Writing Certificate from the University of Georgia in 2021. There, I served as the opinion editor for The Red and Black, an independent, student newspaper in Athens, and was a staff editor for Stillpoint Literary Magazine. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, I'm as adaptable to a storytelling process as I am to the places I've lived.
